Hi Rebecca, can you tell us about yourself and what inspired you to set up your business?
I used to work full time as a manager before I set up my business. I would be out the house from 7:00am until 6:30pm and we had two young children at the time. My husband also worked full time as well as training to be a nurse. Our youngest daughter fell ill with pneumonia and spent a week in hospital. We very nearly lost her. It was at this point I decided not to go back to work and that things had to change. I felt like I was missing out on so much with my kids and none of us were happy. I wanted to be around much more and decided to work for myself.
What tips would you give other women who are thinking about setting up their own business?
The best thing you can do is to plan what you want to do, how you’re going to do it and also stick with what you’re good at.
We love your beautiful drawings and very much enjoyed your live Periscope drawing session recently – what are the benefits of the internet for your business?
The internet has huge benefits for me. I can reach audiences in other parts of the World. I think without the internet I probably wouldn’t have been able to continue what I do. It would have been much harder for me to work from home. It’s also a huge boost when you get compliments about what you’re doing.
What are your future plans for Art by Rebecca Vose?
I have big plans for my artwork. One of them being a homeware range that I hope to launch next year. I’m always working away on new things and looking for other businesses to work with. It’s exciting!
